WP4 Workpackage on prescriptions and medicines

Lead beneficiary: Observatoire Social Européen, Dr Rita Baeten


Objectives


  • To identify potential obstacles to the cross-border dispensation of prescription-only medicinal products (POMs) and assess any potential risks associated with the removal of these obstacles


Methodology


  • A literature review

  • A legal comparison and analysis of the legislation applicable in Belgium, Finland, Germany, Spain and the UK

  • Data collection and cross-country analysis with regard to POM’s, prescribing and dispensing in the five Member States

  • A policy analysis based on interviews with stakeholders and policy makers to find out how the regulation is applied in practice, what the aims of the regulation are (stated and real), and who is benefiting from it

  • Experiments testing the acceptance of foreign prescriptions by pharmacists in community pharmacies in the five Member States
